Get a head start on your holiday toy shopping with this list of the best toys 2017. These are great gift ideas for all ages!
Every year my husband and I have the same debate – do we cut back on Christmas gifts for the kids or go all out. The kids get enough toys from family and friends, so why not just get them a few nice gifts and be done with it? It will cut down on the clutter of the overflowing toy box, save us from spending money on something that will be tossed aside within a day or two, and I’m sure there is a great parenting lesson in there somewhere.
We can’t just not get them presents. Giving gifts at Christmas is almost as much for us as it is for our kids. We like being able to give our kids gifts. Seeing their faces light up when they get the exact thing they’ve been longing over is priceless. What parent doesn’t want that?
We usually end up somewhere in the middle. We buy them one or two of the things they really want, a big gift they could use, and some educational gifts mixed in just because we like seeing toys sit in the box never to be played.
Keeping this in mind, I created this list of best toys 2017. This list includes a mix of what is predicted to be the hottest toys in 2017 along with some tried and true toys that are always played with in our house.

The toy of your childhood is making a return. If you are unfortunate enough not to know about Teddy Ruxpin, he is an animatronic bear who sings and tells stories. He has interactive technology that connects via Bluetooth, LCD animated eyes, and his mouth syncs with the stories and songs. This is predicted to be THE most in-demand toy, making it to the top of the best toy 2017 list.
This has got to be one of the cutest toys on the list. The Fingerlings Baby Monkey grabs onto your finger and responds to sound, motion, and touch by blinking, turning its head, and making noises. This is another toy that is sure to be top of many Christmas lists this year.
In 2016 Hatchimals were the must-have toy, but the Hatchimals CollEGGtibles makes the best toys 2017 list. Kids can gently hatch these eggs by pressing the shell with their hands to find their Hatchimal inside.
The Razor 360 FlashRider isn’t new, but we recently purchased this for our 8-year-old’s birthday and it was a HUGE hit! Both of our boys fight over who gets to ride this because it is so much fun. This rider has a large front wheel reminiscent of a Big Wheel and two castors in the back, making it easy to drift and spin out. The spark bar on the side causes sparks to fly, adding to the fun of this rider. I highly recommend this for tons of outdoor fun.
Another favorite in our house is Magna-tiles. We started out with a small set and had to add to them to stop the fighting over who got to play with them. Magna-Tiles are magnetic building tiles that easily connect to build houses, cars, cubes, and anything else they can imagine. It’s a great STEM toy that never gets old.
If you have a kid who loves LEGO, this is the ultimate gift. It includes over 840 LEGO pieces to build a robot. The kit includes an interactive motor and a color and distance sensor to detect distance, motion, and color.
Another one for the LEGO fans is the Klutz Chain Reaction Craft Kit. This kit helps kids design and build moving machines. If your kids like watching the YouTube videos of the elaborate marble mazes they will love building their own.
If your kid loves science, Snap Circuits Jr. will let them get hands-on with building working electrical circuits. This is another one we have in our house, and my one warning is to stick to the age guidelines. There are many small parts and if you lose some of the important ones, no one will play with it anymore (ask me how I know).

The KidiBeats Drum Set is a great toddler toy that plays 9 melodies for your child to play along with and 4 styles of play. This was a favorite when my youngest was around 3 years old and I loved it because it was small and much less noisy than a real drum set!
Shape sorting toys were a favorite when my kids were little. This one is super cute because it is also a picnic basket with food items, cups, plates and more. They can work on their fine motor skills with some creative play!
